Patio Project The project that started it all Finished First! This is my payoff for a summer worth of hard work. The “Beer Deck” inherited with the house. The home inspector said this would attract termites, but it was the rats living under it that spelled it’s demise. Pulling in a few friends we sawed up the lumber and got to work. We found that the wood under the deck was resting on the ground which is a recipe for trouble. Good thing we were getting rid of it. Under the deck we found a nice 8′ by 10′ concrete patio which we would be making use of. Under the guidance of my friend the construction worker we got to work laying forms for concrete. It wasn’t much more to add rebar to the project so we learned how to do that too. Rebar finished ready for concrete. After the concrete set up for a few days we got to work on building the sunshade. 24″ deep posts with concrete around them took a while to get in place. We built the forms for the roof on the ground and lifted them into place. The second half wasn’t bad since we already had the lag bolts in place to capture it. The center plywood was laid across the break in the roof to give it some extra strength. Took us a good day to have something that looked like a roof. Got lucky and got a free hot tub, although maybe not too lucky since its the only thing that still needs work. Another friend had some old roofing shingles he donated to the project. Getting the trop corners was a challange but it looked good once it was done. This solar panel was half off so it was an easy decision to use it to power the lights and radio under the sunshade. The wiring could use some clean up, but this solar controller turns on the LEDs automatically after the sun goes down. The FlexiDaisy mounted solar powered LED’s under the sunshade. This was the first test of the FlexiDaisy channel production run. We couldn’t have been more proud when everything fit together exactly as intended.
